In the 2015 revision we took the already outstanding SURVIVE! GSO-5.1 and made it even better. While the blade profile has remained the same, we've lengthened and recontoured the handle a bit to improve comfort and usability over a wider range of users.
The SURVIVE! GSO-5.1, a full sized medium utility knife, is one of the most versatile cutting tools in the SURVIVE! line up. The robust, well balanced design of this tool allows you to tackle a wide variety of tasks with relative ease. The very manageable size and weight of the GSO-5.1 is solid and confident in your hand, without being heavy or feeling bulky.
Our high quality Torx T-25 style fasteners are precision machined from 416 stainless steel. Key features of the kydex sheaths include: excellent retention, drain channels, and several attachment options with slots and eyelets, in addition to the kydex clip. The peened finish on the blade provides extra durability and is non-reflective. The spine is sharp enough for use with most ferro rods. We utilize the experts at Peters' Heat Treating to provide the most up to date heat treat for all of our blades.

A bit about the steel used in SURVIVE! Knives:
CPM-3V is a high alloyed tool steel, made using the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, that has a very high impact toughness and excellent edge holding. Being made with the CPM process, this steel is also very resistant to lateral stress (flex) breakage, making it a perfect choice for a high performance, hard use knife. CPM-3V is not a stainless alloy and can stain if not cared for. Check out the CPM-3V Data Sheet.
CPM-20CV is a very high quality martensitic stainless steel, with outstanding corrosion resistance and excellent edge holding. CPM-20CV does lack the impact toughness of CPM-3V but being made with the CPM process, this steel is still very resistant to lateral stress (flex) breakage. Consider CPM-20CV for a very low maintenance, all weather cutting tool. Here is the CPM-20CV Data Sheet.

AMAZING SERVICE AND BLADE

I saw this blade during a survival course in the Sierra Nevada's. I was hooked. Ordered 4 for my wedding as gifts with the leather sheaths. All 4 of us use these everyday either in the field or in the line of duty. No rust, no flaws, strong blades and amazing craftsman ship. Guy went the distance and because these were custom for a special gift Guy sent video of the process. It was a long wait. I'm placing an order for the next run along with friends who want another one. First class service, first class blade. Thanks Guy, and Semper Fi, to you and Ellie.

I ordered a factory 2nd GSO 5.1 on 04/11/16 and it arrived 05/04/16. It is worth the wait. I cant find any flaws on the knife, I'm not sure why it is a factory 2nd. The knife sharp. I barely touched the blade to my arm and the hair shaved right off. I watched a number of You Tube videos researching a good camp knife I don't recall any of the reviewers saying anything bad about the Survive Knives. I am very impressed with this knife and the care that has been put into producing it.

Great Field Knife

After using the GSO 5.1 in 20CV steel for the last few months, I can confidently say that it is the best field knife I've ever used. The toughness of the 20CV blade surprised me, I have yet to chip or roll the edge after using the knife for everything from processing firewood to carving a turkey. The edge is incredible, it cuts extremely well which isn't common on a knife of this size. Very (VERY!) few knives combine this level of toughness AND cutting ability. The handle is very well designed, comfortable for heavy duty chores like splitting firewood as well as lighter work like carving wood or meat. The choil works great for making the big knife feel smaller for tasks requiring more control. Thanks for such a great tool Survive!

I'm a member of multiple knife communities and own many knives by top manufacturers, but when I received my new GSO 5.1 today, I'm blown away! My expectations were high, but the fine folks at Survive Knives have gone beyond my expectations. The quality, the material used, and the design cannot be beat for the money. In my opinion, this is what a survival knife is all about! One of the sharpest out of the box I've seen and the sheath is very well suited for the knife and absolutely no rattle when sheathed. Can swap the sheath around for horizontal carry as well. I just can't say enough good things about this purchase, totally worth the wait!

Craftsmanship at its finest

I heard about this blade from youtube and decided to give it a try. I have never spent this much money on a knife before but after using it I would do it again in a heartbeat. The quality is amazing and the handle fits and feels great. The sheath is sturdy and holds the knife in well also has a great belt loop. Would totally recommend this knife!

I ordered a factory 2nd GSO about two years ago and I thought THAT was a work of art!! I have put it through its paces and it hasn't failed me yet.
Now I am the proud owner of a GSO 5.1 and I gotta tell ya, it is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. It truly is a work of art...and I will also beat the snot out of it because I know it WILL hold up. Thank you Guy and the entire Survive team. You are true artisans. -
Exceptional Quality and Attention to detail

Ordered my 5.1 last March 15 and the wait was well worth it. The Blade came wrapped with care, order sheet. I can't wait to get it in the woods, also it keeps me looking forward to getting my 4.1 :-) This is a fine product built with exacting detail. These will not be my last Survive Knives purchased.

I got into SURVIVE! knives right off the get go, and have never looked back since. This company knows craftmanship, and they put quality and customer care above all else. Guy cares about his customers, and cares what you have to say. This blade is an excellent camp knife, I highly reccommend to anyone, anywhere. Keep it up SURVIVE!
